I tried something new today! I like to try new things whether it be food, activities, or whatever every once in a while. Today it was papaya and coffee beans with blueberry flavor. The coffee was a lot better than I thought it would be, the papaya was a disappointment. However, it was pretty, so not a total loss!

I don’t know about you, but I am {LOVING} this weather. Spring is my absolute FAVORITE season. (Autumn in a close second). I’ve spent the last couple of weeks getting my garden ready and checking out the various Farmer’s Markets in the area. LOVE. SPRING.


FYI: Parker built this strawberry box for me which I thought was very sweet:)

This is a good time of year to get your workouts in outdoors. Go to a park, explore some trails, ride your bike to the store, go rock climbing! ¬†The weather won’t last long so I advise you to take advantage of it now!

If you’ve never run a race before, (5k or otherwise) then I challenge you to do so! Even if you’re not a runner, you can start small and work your way up to your goal. Some good sites to look for races include active.com, runningintheusa.com, and runnersworld.com.

It’s been such a busy yet fulfilling week! Parker and I just got back from a family vacation to Breckenridge, Colorado. It was a beautiful place, and I mastered the bunny hill at least… ūüôā My sister, brother, and husband all had birthdays this week too. Busy busy busy!

Now I am back home and gearing up for getting back into the routine of things and prepping healthy meals for the week to come. (Have I mentioned that prepping is a HUGE key to sticking to your plan and goals?) As soon as I got home I knew that I wanted to prep some spinach items for the week- Sunday’s are always a good day for me to do this.

I made Spinach-Basil Pasta and Spinach Tortillas. I tried some of each and they are awesome. I did add some pesto to the pasta and it gave it the perfect taste! Food items like these are staples and can be easily made at home in no time. I think for both it took me just under one hour. (Maybe more like 45 min). Not bad, and I know exactly what went in to my food!

Hello hello hello!

I hope that you are all doing unbelievable! I am so excited that we are in the month of Spring! Since I’ve last written for SBM Health, I have found a service here in the greater Saint Louis area that delivers fresh produce to my home for an actual reasonable price. There are some days where going to the gym just doesn’t sound appealing, however it is not an option to skip a workout that I had planned (planning is key) so I workout at home. (I’m not saying that you should go hard every single day in fact I strongly encourage¬†against¬†this as you are doing more damage to your body and your body needs rest and relaxation too). What do you do on those days where getting ready to go out to the gym just doesn’t sound appealing? Go through your Pinterest board titled “Workout” of course! I can’t tell you how many workouts I’ve pinned and haven’t tried. It’s good to mix up your routine so that you don’t bore yourself. I’ll just look at it that way today ūüôā

The workout I tried today was simply great. It didn’t advertise being a whole body workout, but that’s what it ended up being. And I did it right in my living room with Pandora streaming in the background. Here is the workout:¬†Popsugar Body Weight Workout Women

This is the time of year that a lot of people start to lose motivation for their health goals. School is about to let out in a few months, it’s been long enough to let New Year Resolutions go, and it can be depressing knowing that you let yourself go when Spring and Summer are just around the corner.

A lot of times Sunday mornings it’s a struggle to get to church. Yesterday morning was one of those mornings for me. My hair looked like a lion’s mane, my makeup didn’t blend right, and I ran out of my favorite coffee (perhaps the worst of the three). Given all of those things, I wasn’t in the best of moods on the way out the door at 9:45. When I got to church (still frustrated and feeling uncomfortable as ever) it was hard to open up to worship. The worship team moved in to the third song (I had never heard it before) but a couple of the lines stuck out to me…¬†“It doesn’t matter what I feel, it doesn’t matter what I¬†¬†see”. ¬†

Those lines really switched my attitude and broke down the wall I had up. I think that it is a good reminder that God is with you no matter what, and that His love is not contingent upon what we do, how others feel about us, or whatever worldly perspective you want to throw in there. ¬†Take some time today to step out of your typical Monday, and just rest in God’s presence and focus on the promises He’s made. I’ve discovered that plants, herbs, gardening, etc. is one of the greatest forms of therapy for me personally. I know that it’s not quite Spring, but I went yesterday and got some new “house plants” to put in my kitchen. There’s just something about plants, and the growth that they represent.


It’s been difficult these last two weeks to get into a new routine. I started a new job, and it is always difficult to keep a routine or form a new one when something major changes in your life. However, I am starting to get my new routine down, and nothing makes me happier!


Also, perhaps one of my biggest accomplishments this week, I TRIED SOMETHING WITH SWEET POTATO IN IT. For those of you who know me, know that I can not¬†stand¬†sweet potatoes, and never have been able to since I can remember. ¬†However, ¬†I decided to try it again in a new recipe, and it was actually delicious… I know- I can’t believe I’m saying that. These are called {Black Bean Sweet Potato Flautas} (Whatever that means). Anyway- they were delicious! It has been a fantastic weekend. Saturday we spent six hours at IKEA (including breakfast and lunch) and then Parker and I went to Winter Jam St. Louis. It was a full Saturday, but definitely fun.

Today I went “major grocery shopping”. It was my first time doing major shopping as a vegetarian and that made the trip just a little bit longer than usual. I decided to become a “vegetarian” (specifically a pesco-vegetarian) this year not because I want to save all the animals (I don’t) but because I ate way too much meat which left me eating way too few vegetables etc. Being a vegetarian is a challenge- but it’s fun. It has been much simpler than I thought, and I think this is because I had already been eating and finding healthy meal options before I made this decision. It wan’t like I went from eating frozen pre-packaged meals straight to vegetarianism.

This morning I made chia blueberry pancakes with organic no sugar added strawberries on top. It was seriously delicious. Pancakes can be hard to make with no added sugar, but these were the bomb! (People still say that right?) 12552853_10205743215875721_4423110979158320840_n

For dinner I made avocado pasta. I’m not a big fan of avocados in general, but this was also “the bomb”.

Hello! What  a week it has been with all of the snow and ice! Although it has been less than ideal temperatures all week it did give me an excuse to try some new at-home workouts.  Tuesday night was when it began snowing here in St. Charles so I skipped the gym and headed straight home. I wanted to do some kind of ab workout that day so I looked up some reputable sources via Youtube.

I’ve done this ab workout from¬†Blogilates¬†for the past couple of days, and my abs are more sore than I ever remember them being. The instructor offers a new kind of sit up called the ballerina sit up which basically just adds the pointing of your toes, but it makes a difference! I do have to say that this instructor is WAY too energetic about working out but hey-at least she’s being positive. Here is the link:

I have also been trying to increase my stamina and running form since I was not consistent this past summer during our travels. (Instead we hiked 10,000 feet up for exercise-much different). I really enjoy running races and know that it is important to train well and correctly, along with pairing weight training and cardio. Seriously-doing both is the¬†best way¬†to stay fit. I know that cardio may seem like it has many more benefits, and I used¬†to think that too, but you will be pleasantly surprised at the benefits of weight training. Don’t take my word for it- check out the ever popular Pinterest.

If you are trying to stay good on your resolution to be healthy an fit but feel like you are at a stand still or are just bored, I encourage you to give these a try. I’m a believer in taking small but significant steps to create a lifestyle rather than burning yourself out all at once. It takes a lot of effort and determination to reach your goals, but in the end you are going to reap the benefits more than you know!

Good afternoon! I hope that this freezing cold Monday is treating you well.

I am really excited about today’s post as it ties in with everything I have been trying to convey and live by in the past year. Yesterday at church, our Pastor preached as a part of the series we are in called “Detox” about how the mind, spirit ,and body are all connected and how they all affect one another. It was one of those services where I was giving an amen every thirty seconds because it hit HOME, and lined up exactly with the purpose of this blog.¬†Health is more than just calories and therapy.¬†I waited until today to post though because I wanted to share the sermon with you, and it wasn’t posted until today.

If there is one thing that you get done today let it be listening to this:


These aspects make up what it means to be WHOLE.  It important to have balance and to be mindful and intentional in all that you do.

I encourage you to live today like the gift that it is. When you do this, your whole perspective changes.

I like this diagram, and I believe that there are a multitude of aspects within these main three.
